Vietnam’s Tuoi Tre newspaper said 23-year-old Preeyanooch Phuttharaksa of Bangkok was convicted in a one-day trial on Tuesday of trafficking more than 3 kg of methamphetamine. It said she was paid about US $2,570 by a Nigerian trafficking ring to transport the drugs from Benin to Vietnam and was arrested at Ho Chi Minh City’s airport last October. Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Possessing, trading or trafficking more than 600 grams of heroin or 20 kg of opium is punishable by death.—AP
