Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi will receive an award from India’s Visva-Bharati University next month, reports the Indo-Asian News Service. The Desikottama award will be bestowed on Suu Kyi and other recipients—Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan, the former head of the Indian Space Research Organization, Bhutan’s former king Jigme Singye Wangchuk and Chinese scholar Tang Chung—at a ceremony on Dec. 7. Visva-Bharati University was founded by poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Previous ward winners include former US first lady Eleanor Roosevelt and Mother Teresa.
