Shan Rebels Approve Terms of Laiza Ethnic Agreement

14 November 2013

The Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) has said it approves common terms agreed by ethnic armed groups in Laiza, Kachin State, at the beginning of November, Mizzima reports. The Shan rebels did not initially sign up to terms that would be taken into negotiations with the government on a nationwide ceasefire agreement because they wanted to consult their leadership. “[The common terms negotiated in Laiza] will not be affected if we sign off on them or not,” RCSS/SSA spokesman Maj Sai Lao Seng told Mizzima. “We will still work with them even though we did not sign anything.”
