The Japanese government is preparing to accept more refugees from Burma, the Karen Information Center (KIC) reports. According to the KIC, Japanese officials will travel to the Mae La Oo and Mae Ra Mo refugee camps in Thailand’s Mae Hong Son Province from Monday to discuss the resettlement program with refugees and camp authorities. Japan has already accepted a small number of ethnic Karen refugees registered with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, but enthusiasm for the program has been low due to concerns about living conditions in Japan.
