A Karen youth group raided an island on the Moei River separating Thailand and Burma last week and seized illegal substances, ammunition and weapons, according to a report by the Karen Information Center. The Kaw Moo Ra Karen Youth Group said that it also “detained” three suspected drug runners who were allegedly operating from the island, located in a no-man’s-land between the border towns of Mae Sot on the Thai side and Myawaddy on the Burma side. The group said that it seized 5,000 methamphetamine tablets, 2.4 kg of marijuana and an M-16 machine gun and other weapons.
