Burma’s Ministry of Information has given a green light to eight more newspapers to publish daily editions starting on April 1, according to a report by the state-run New Light of Myanmar (NLM). The move brings to 16 the total number of newspaper now licensed to publish on a daily basis. Among those given permission to publish dailies were the Eleven Media Group and opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who applied on behalf of D Wave, a journal published by her party, the National League for Democracy. Meanwhile, the NLM is seeking a foreign or local joint venture partner.
