According to the Karen ethnic armed organization, nearly 1,800 regime soldiers were killed in clashes with its armed wings in the first five months of the year.
The past week has seen the junta’s forces engage in costly clashes with the Arakan Army in Maungdaw; footage of one military funeral has appeared on social media.
After suffering heavy casualties in Kachin State’s Hpakant Township, the regime launched indiscriminate air strikes on KIA and civilian targets, the armed group said.
At least 18 have been killed and eight captured in fighting with the KNLA and PDF groups in the Karen State town over the past week.
The order from junta No. 2 Vice Snr-Gen Soe Win comes as military casualties in resistance hotspots mount; villagers who contact PDF groups are to be ‘severely punished’.
