Resistance fighters suffered heavy casualties during a clash with Myanmar junta troops in Palaw Township, Tanintharyi Region on Monday, according to residents.
Around 100 junta soldiers have been conducting terror raids across the township since last week. The troops entered Let Ku village on Friday, triggering three days of fighting with local People’s Defense Forces.
On Saturday, junta vessels moored near Let Ku village shelled the conflict zone, killing one resident.
On Sunday, junta troops killed four civilians from Let Ku village and torched some houses.
On Monday, the troops traveled to nearby Mya Daung village, where fighting with the PDFs reportedly continued.
Pro-regime Telegram channels claimed that 14 PDF fighters had been killed and seven weapons seized during the clash near Mya Daung village.
The People’s Defense Forces have yet to give any details about casualties.
The Myanmar military is conducting an offensive in Palaw Township by both land and river. The terror attacks have forced thousands of residents from nearby villages to flee.
Tanintharyi Region is a resistance stronghold, with PDFs from Dawei, Launglon, Palaw, Tanintharyi and Kyunsu townships mounting regular attacks against regime troops.
