Worker Gets Life for Girl’s Rape

A construction worker in Karenni State has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a primary school student, according to a report by the Kantarawaddy news agency. State court transcripts showed that Maung Kye Zin Maung, 21, assaulted his 11-year-old victim in Pruso Township on Jan. 24. The man, also known as Kyaw Myo Thu, was attached to the No. 14 Military Training School in the township, the report said. A lawyer for the girl’s family said that the violator and “[all other] responsible persons” would be sued for compensation.
