UN Experts Concerned About Thai Prosecution of UK Activist

12 September 2013

Documents released on Wednesday reveal that five UN Human Rights Council experts sent a joint letter to the Thai government to express concern about the prosecution of Andy Hall, a British activist supporting migrant laborers in Thailand. Hall co-authored a report that alleged that Thai firm Natural Fruit exploited migrant laborers and exposed them to human rights violations. The company subsequently sued him for defamation, a criminal charge in Thailand. In the UN letter, “Concern is expressed at the possibility that the criminal charges against Mr. Andy Hall may be the result of his legitimate and peaceful actions gathering and publishing evidence of facts.”
