The UN Security Council Working Group on Children and Armed Conflict adopted a statement calling on all parties involved in Burma’s ethnic conflicts to cease the use child soldiers and expressing “deep concern about the continued recruitment and use of children in violation of international law.” The message, adopted on Aug 16 and released by the UN on Wednesday also voiced concerns about “abductions of children” for recruitment and “reports of killing and maiming of children… including through the use of anti-personnel landmines” and military actions that prevent children’s access health care and education.
