Advocacy group Burma Campaign UK has called for the British government to make sure a UN resolution being drafted this week on Burma addresses rape and sexual violence in the country. In a statement Wednesday, the group said it had written to Hugo Swire, Britain’s minister responsible for Burma policy, pushing for pressure on Burma’s government after it has refused to join the UK’s Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative. “The upcoming UN General Assembly Resolution on Burma is an opportunity to include strong wording calling for an end to impunity for crimes of rape and sexual violence,” Burma Campaign UK’s letter said.
