Strong wind and heavy rain destroyed 92 huts from eight village tracts in Maubin, Irrawaddy Division, last week, according to official media reports. The storm also damaged a rice mill and monastery and left 270 people from 62 families homeless, the reports said, adding that the victims are now put under the care of the regional government. According to an earlier report, a girl was killed when 11 fishing boats capsized at the Sangyoungton Lake following heavy rain and strong wind in Maubin in the same period. Others managed to escape to safety by swimming.
