The 61-year-old, who returned from a trip to Singapore last Friday where he reportedly received medical treatment, cited health concerns for his decision. The announcement, carried by the Burmese-language service of Voice of America, came after weeks of speculation that President Thein Sein is planning a reshuffle of senior officials. Tin Aung Myint Oo, a former four-star general, was considered a leader among hardliners in the military-backed government that came to power last year.
