Lt-Gen Yawd Serk, the leader of the Restoration Council of Shan State/Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA), said on Wednesday that it was too soon to begin pushing for a total rejection of Burma’s military-drafted 2008 Constitution, according to a report by the Shan Herald Agency for News. Commenting on resolutions passed by the United Nationalities Federal Council, a coalition of ethnic armed groups, at a conference held last month, he said he broadly agreed with their goals, but didn’t think the demand to scrap the constitution was realistic. Nobody likes the constitution, he said, “but for the sake of peace and reconciliation, what we can do now is its amendment.”
