The Human Rights Defenders and Promoters Network has launched a petition campaign calling for the release of its leader and founder, Aye Myint, according to a report by DVB. The group said that Aye Mint, who was arrested in August 2008 on charges of plotting a bomb attack on an office of the Union Solidarity and Development Association, is currently serving a life sentence in Loikaw Prison. It said it has so far collected 8,00 signatures, and is aiming for a total of 50,000. Two other members of the group are remain in prison despite recent amnesties.
