Party Says India Risks Losing Land to Burma With Fencing Project
3 December 2013
India’s second largest political party has urged New Delhi to cease construction of a fence on the country’s northeastern border, where the party says India risks “surrendering a huge area of our land to Myanmar,” the New Delhi-based Business Standard reports. In a letter to the Indian prime minister, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party asked the government to “immediately stop the border fencing work as it leaves huge tract of land on Burma side which has traditionally been ours.” The party leader suggested the formation of a committee to determine border landmarks along the poorly demarcated border before any fencing project continued.
