Burmese tycoon Serge Pun and Jamaica-based firm Digicel have signed a deal with Qatar’s Ooredoo to “develop, construct and lease telecommunications towers” in Burma, according to a statement Monday. Digicel said its consortium Digicel Asian Holdings would work with Ooredoo, one of two international companies awarded a telecoms license in June. “Digicel Asian Holdings’ company in [Burma], Myanmar Tower Company, will be amongst the first telecommunications tower companies to begin construction in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and, through its multi-tenancy towers, will help all telecommunications operating companies achieve their aims of rapidly deploying telecommunications coverage across the country.”
