Burma’s main opposition party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), says it wants talks with the government, Parliament and military on amending the country’s 2008 Constitution. In a press release issued on Saturday, the party called for discussions to begin on changing the controversial military-drafted Constitution. The NLD has been conducting informal opinion polls since mid-October and says most Burmese back amending the Constitution, rather than rewriting it. Meanwhile, Burma’s 109-member Constitution Review Joint Committee, set up in July, said it has extended a deadline for submission of proposed changes to Dec. 31.
