Police in Malaysia are investigating the attempted assassination of two ethnic Arakanese political leaders from Burma, reports The Star, a Kuala Lumpur-based daily. The attack took place last Thursday, when Dr Aye Maung of the Rakhine Nationalities Develop ment Party and Aye Thor Aung of the Arakan League for Democracy were visiting the Malaysian capital. According to a source, the politicians had just left a shopping center when two motorcyclists shot at them. The city’s police chief, Senior Deputy Commissioner Datuk Mohmad Salleh, said he believed the assailants were Burmese nationals affected by the conflicts in their country.
