Transport authorities in Burma are planning to build another overpass in Rangoon to help relieve traffic congestion in the country’s fast-growing commercial capital, according to a report by Eleven Media. No contract has been signed, but the new overpass, at the Myaynigone intersection in downtown Rangoon, is expected to cost around US$17 million, the report said. Construction is expected to begin sometime in the next fiscal year, which starts in April. Traffic in the city, which has a population of more than 6 million and an area of 795 square kilometers, has surged since the government relaxed restrictions on car imports in 2011.
