Former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra paid a visit to Burma last week, the Bangkok Post reports, citing Pheu Thai Party leader Somchai Wongsawat. Somchai, a ruling party lawmaker, said Thaksin visited the country to perform a merit-making rite, with photos of the former prime minister in self-imposed exile, taken at an unspecified Buddhist temple, later appearing on Somchai’s Facebook. Thaksin was last in Burma in April 2013, and the month prior also visited the Thai-backed Dawei deep-sea port project and special economic zone in Tenasserim Division. Thaksin, whose sister Yingluck serves as the embattled caretaker prime minister of Thailand, is known to have substantial business interests in Burma.
