Rangoon’s City Hall will for year’s Thingyan allow more pandals, the stands from which passers-by are drenched during the annual water festival, the Myanma Freedom Daily reports. The newspaper said the Yangon City Development Committee’s road and bridge division would allow 57 large pandals and 20 medium sized ones for the festival in mid-April. “Pandals are allowed to be built in Mingalar Taung Nyunt and Kamayut townships after having been banned last year,” the report said. It said people wanting to use water from Rangoon’s Inya and Kandawgyi lakes, usually the centers of Thingyan festivities, must gain permission from authorities to do so.
