Chinese Medics Battle Measles in Kachin Camp
21 August 2012
Chinese doctors and a team of medics are struggling to contain an outbreak of measles in a Kachin refugee camp on the Chinese side of the border with Burma, according to Kachin health workers. The KIC news group reported that the disease is spreading fast among children under the age of 10 in the La Ying camp for Kachin refugees, located just inside China’s Yunnan Province. “China is worried the disease will spread to local populations, so doctors from China are now coming in to the camp and providing treatment,” said Doi Zin, a health worker with the Wun Pawng Ninghtoi aid agency.
