Canada says it will open an embassy in Burma in support of the country’s moves to open up and improve human rights. Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said on Friday that he hopes opening an embassy in Burma, officially known as Myanmar, will build on other positive developments in the southeast Asian country. He did not say when or where the embassy would open. Canada loosened most of its sanctions against the military-dominated nation earlier this year. Western economic and political sanctions had been imposed for its decades of repressive and undemocratic policies.—AP
