Thousands of runners competed Sunday at the Yoma Yangon International Marathon, Burma’s largest marathon event and the only road race in Rangoon. Competitors from 40 countries were represented at the races, which included the 42-kilometer marathon, the half marathon and a 5-kilometer run, according to Rangoon-based 7 Days newspaper. Burma’s Mi Mi Aye finished first in the women’s marathon, while a Kenyan runner won the men’s race, the newspaper reported. About 3,000 runners signed up to race, it added, and the majority were foreigners. The first Yoma Yangon International Marathon in 2013 drew about 1,000 runners, according to marathon organizers.
