Journalists in Burma are collecting signatures to petition against a controversial publishing bill that they say is a threat to newfound press freedoms, Eleven Myanmar reports. The Myanmar Journalist Network (MJN) started collecting signatures from the public on Wednesday to oppose the Printing and Publishing Enterprise Act, which was passed by Parliament’s Lower House last month and will be considered next by the Upper House, the news agency reported. The bill, which was drafted by the government, has been criticized for giving the Ministry of Information broad powers to grant and revoke publication licenses.
