The All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) and Burmese government forces clashed last Saturday in northern Kachin State, according to a report by the Democratic Voice of Burma. The ABSDF, better known as Burma’s “student army,” is allied with the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), which has been fighting the Burmese army since last June. Government troops from the 40th Infantry Battalion reportedly opened fire on the ABSDF while transporting supplies to a command center near KIA Brigade 5’s territory in Lajayang, and the student army returned fire. No casualties were reported.
