30 Firms Submit Bids for Burma’s Offshore Oil Blocks
2 December 2013
Thirty companies have submitted bids for Burma’s first-ever offshore oil tender, according to industry analyst Platts. Citing a posting last week on the Ministry of Energy website, Platts said the list of bidders included major international firms as well as state-run enterprises. The tender will include 11 shallow-water and 19 deep-water blocks. Though block-by-block information on specific bidders was not made available, several firms have reportedly made bids on more than one block. Bidders include US oil giants Shell and Chevron, and France’s Total, as well as PTT Exploration and Production and Petronas, the state-owned enterprises of Thailand and Malaysia, respectively.
