Burmese President Thein Sein met with China’s Minister of Public Security Meng Jianzhu on Tuesday, according to the Xinhua news agency. The two leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and the success of recent efforts by China, Burma, Laos and Thailand to improve security in their shared border areas, citing the example of the arrest of Sai Naw Kham, leader of an armed drug-trafficking gang accused of killing Chinese sailors on the Mekong River last year. Meng said China highly values the strategic partnership between the two countries, but is also happy to see Burma expanding its international ties.
