Burmese authorities plan to allow foreign visitors to receive visas on arrival at international airports in Mandalay and Naypyidaw, local media reported on Tuesday. Previously, the service was only available at Yangon International Airport, the country’s main gateway. On June 1, Burma announced that visitors from 31 countries could enter without prearranged visas, but it remains unclear if this applies to tourists as well as business travelers. According to official statistics, 359,359 tourists arrived at Rangoon’s international airport in 2011. The number is expected to reach 1.5 million this year.
