RANGOON — An exhibition by the celebrated Burmese artist Lun Gywe and his wife Lun Mya Mya opened to the public over the weekend, featuring 75 impressionist-style paintings.
Titled “Brush Strokes of a Couple,” the exhibition at Rangoon’s Trish Gallery in Dagon Township is the first show put on jointly by the artists.
Lun Gywe, 85, is considered one of Burma’s greatest painters and has done several exhibitions both locally and at international venues.
The couple have said they will put all proceeds from the exhibition toward a kind of trust fund, which will assist fellow artists with financial obligations.
“This will basically be like an eternal fund for painting artists in the country and will serve as contributions for social matters of joy or grief,” they said.
Prices for paintings vary according to their size. Lun Gywe’s paintings start from 150,000 kyats (US$150) for a 5.5-inch-by-7.5-inch painting, with the most expensive 22-inch-by-30-inch pieces selling for 2 million kyats.
The exhibition runs through March 15.
