The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and a resistance group say they seized a Myanmar junta base in Sumprabum Township, Kachin State, on Wednesday.
The KIA, the armed wing of the Kachin Independence Organization, and Kagabu People’s Defense Force attacked the base at a bridge near Daru Kha village in the township, the Kachin media reported citing resistance forces.
The military held the position on the Sumprabum-Myitkyina highway for 10 years.
It took the groups about five hours to seize the base.
The Kachin media estimated that 10 junta soldiers were killed and another detained and two resistance fighters were killed and others injured.
A video shows many weapons and ammunition being seized.
Two junta aircraft arrived but could not attack due to bad weather, a resident told 74 Media.
The resistance forces later burned down the base. The Irrawaddy could not independently verify the reports.
Also on Wednesday, the KIA and a resistance group reportedly attacked a military outpost at a bridge between two villages in the jade-mining hub of Hpakant Township, killing two soldiers.
Since early July, clashes have been reported along the Myitkyina-Bhamo highway in Kachin State when the junta deployed several hundred troops to attack the KIA headquarters in Laiza on the Chinese border.
The KIA has clashed with junta forces in Muse and Kutkai townships in neighboring northern Shan State.
It is also fighting junta troops alongside resistance groups in upper Sagaing Region.
