Burma’s President Thein Sein told a British delegation that violence in Arakan State over the last year was “exaggerated” and made worse by “instigation at home and abroad,” according to the state-run New Light of Myanmar newspaper. The delegation of seven British parliamentarians was led by Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow and met with the president in Naypyidaw on Tuesday. The two sides also reportedly discussed issues ranging from the release of Burma’s remaining political prisoners to the establishment of a United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights office (OHCHR) in the country.
