Thai police have arrested a taxi driver accused of killing an American expatriate in a fight over a taxi fare worth less than US $2. Police Lt-Col Teerayut Maiplaeng says the 32-year-old driver confessed to stabbing Troy Lee Pilkington with a machete Saturday on Bangkok’s Sukhumvit Road. Teerayut said on Monday that 51-year-old Pilkington had lived in Thailand for at least three years. The driver, Chidchai Utmacha, who now faces murder charges, said Pilkington accused him of rigging the taxi’s meter, refused to pay the fare of 51 baht ($1.60), and threw coffee at him when asked for the money.—AP
