Burmese opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi is set to receive the Congressional Gold Medal at a ceremony in Washington on Wednesday. “The fact that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi will stand in the Rotunda of the US Capitol to receive the highest award Congress can give is just incredible,” said Congressman Joe Crowley on Tuesday. Crowley, who strongly backed giving Suu Kyi the award, will speak at the ceremony, as will former First Lady Laura Bush and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Previous winners include the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela.
