Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and Thailand’s former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra have had a chance encounter in Singapore, reports The Bangkok Post. Thaksin posted on his Instagram account that he ran into Suu Kyi while at the 2013 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. “I accidentally meet [sic] Khun Aung San Suu Kyi at the Formula 1. She is healthy and lively,” the newspaper quoted him as saying. Thaksin, a multi-billionaire accused of abusing his power as prime minister until he was deposed by a military coup in 2006, once likened himself to Suu Kyi, who was persecuted by Burma’s former military rulers.
