A total of 25 ethnic rebel groups and civil society organizations from Burma’s western and northwestern regions are planning to meet in Lashio on March 20 for the Shan–Kayah Trust-building for Peace conference, the SHAN Herald news reports. It said representatives from major Shan and Wa militias and political organizations would attend, including the Restoration Council of Shan State and the Shan Nationalities Democratic Party, and United Wa State Party/United Wa State Army. Other groups include the ethnic Kokang’s National Democratic Alliance Army and the Karenni National Progress Party, along with representatives of smaller ethnic groups such as the Pa-O.
