A rights group is calling for the release of an activist who they say was arbitrarily detained in Rangoon after protesting a land seizure. Ko Htin Kyaw, leader of the Movement for Democracy Current Force, was arrested last week with three community members protesting the seizure of their land in North Okkalapa Township, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders said Thursday, calling for their release. The Observatory, a joint program of the International Federation for Human Rights and the World Organization Against Torture, said the men were denied bail and face prison time for “insulting the State.”
