Four Kachin Independence Army (KIA) fighters were killed this week in a clash with government troops, according to Burma News International. Citing KIA military commander Naw Bo Jar, the news agency reported that the fatalities came during a government army offensive on Sunday in the Monggo area of Muse Township, resulting in a firefight between the two sides that lasted three hours. The latest fighting comes despite ongoing peace talks, which yielded a seven-point agreement signed in May that includes a plan to work toward cessation of hostilities between government troops and the ethnic Kachin rebels
