The Myanmar Red Cross Society plans to build 60 temporary shelters for 600 displaced families in Arakan State, according to a report by The Myanmar Times. Construction of the shelters, to be built with support from the Qatar Red Crescent Society, is expected to begin this month, said Maung Maung Khin, head of the society’s disaster management division. Each shelter will have 10 units, three toilets, two manual water tube wells and four water containers, he added. The UN estimates that more than 115,000 people in the state are in need of shelter following recent outbreaks of communal violence.
