The government of Rangoon Division is planning to start evicting all squatters currently living in Burma’s largest city at the end of this month, reports Mizzima. Than Aung, the secretary for the government of Rangoon Division, said at a press conference that “all illegal squatter houses will be demolished” because the city can’t continue to accommodate them. Col Win Tin, the division’s minister for border affairs, called the plan “inevitable,” but added that no program had been put in place to resettle the displaced squatters.
