The Mon State government has turned back on its plan to participate in Mon National Day, which is celebrated next month, Mon News Agency reports. Min Nwe Soe, a state minister, met with met with the holiday’s organizing committee in Moulmein on Jan. 9 to ask for an invitation for Mon State government leaders. Following the proposition, the Mon ethnic groups told Min New Soe that he should submit a formal letter to the committee. In response, Min New Soe recently withdrew the state government’s request.The state officials’ plan to participate in Mon National Day had been viewed with skepticism by Mon leaders, who feel that the state government does not represent Mon ethnic interests.
