The Karen National Union (KNU) opened a liaison office in Myawaddy, a border tow opposite Mae Sot, Thailand, on Saturday, according to the Karen News Group. An opening ceremony attended by around 600 people, including the Burmese government’s chief peace negotiator, Aung Min, was held to mark the occasion. It is the fourth liaison office opened by the KNU since it reached a ceasefire agreement with the government earlier this year. The group also has offices in Kyaukkyi in Pegu Division, Dawei in Tenasserim Division and Three Pagoda Pass in Karen State.
