The Karen National Union (KNU) and Burmese government discussed codes of conduct for troops, a ceasefire monitoring mechanism and setting up liaison offices during the first day of peace talks in the Karen State capital Pa-an. Discussions were held in the town’s Zwegabin Hotel on Wednesday with General-Secretary Zipporah Sein leading the KNU delegation and Railways Minister Aung Min heading representatives from the government. The KNU plans to meet Karen civil society organizations, social, religious and political leaders in the area before departing for Rangoon on Thursday.
