The Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) has announced it will not sign the nationwide ceasefire that the Burma government has planned later this month, Kantarawaddy News reports. The announcement came after the government peace negotiations team of Minister Aung Min met with the United National Federal Council (UNFC), an alliance of eight ethnic rebel groups, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, last week to discuss the planned nationwide ceasefire. The KNPP signed a ceasefire with Naypyidaw in March 2012 and agreed with the government in June this year to set up a joint monitoring committee for the implementation of the ceasefire.
