Police in Taungoo, Pegu Division, have arrested an ethnic Karen man who they suspect played a role in a bombing incident last month. According to a report by DVB, 34-year-old Saw Htun Htun was arrested on Nov. 18 with the help of local Karen National Union (KNU) officials. Police said the suspect “vowed to confess to the bombing at his trial,” but KNU Secretary Padoh Kwe Htoo said he believed the man was innocent. “As far as I know, Saw Htun Htun is just a rural villager and he did not commit any crime,” he said. Two people were killed and one was injured in the Oct. 11 explosion.
