Jackie Chan to Visit Burma to Help Combat Child Trafficking
4 July 2012
Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan will visit Burma this week on a three-day mission to help combat child trafficking. In his capacity as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, Chan will visit the agency’s projects for supporting trafficked children and meet with officials. The US State Department’s annual report on human trafficking says thousands of children in Burma are forced to serve in the national army and ethnic military groups. However, Burma signed an agreement with the UN last week to ban the recruitment of child soldiers and demobilize those already serving.—AP
