Around 100 protesters gathered around the Burmese embassy in Jakarta on Thursday to demand the ambassador’s expulsion because of Burma’s alleged mistreatment of Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State. Wearing white headbands with “Save the Rohingya” scrawled in red and carrying banners reading “Stop the Violence,” the demonstrators urged Indonesia and other Muslim countries to “take firm and proactive measures to end the Rohingya’s suffering.” They also said Indonesia should withdraw its support for Burma to chair the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in 2014.
