An Islamic extremist who plotted to bomb the Burmese embassy in Jakarta to avenge the killing of Rohingya Muslims in Arakan State has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison, reports AFP. An Indonesian court handed down the sentence on Monday, after finding the man, Achmad Taufiq, guilty of the “evil” plot. Taufiq’s plans were foiled in May of last year after he was arrested in Jakarta on the day before the planned attack carrying a backpack full of homemade bombs while riding a motorbike with another militant. The 22-year-old is one of several men who have gone on trial for their involvement in the plot.
